The Little Market
In middle school, I used to watch a show called “The Hills." Being only about 11 at the time, I did not understand much of the personal conflicts the cast would deal with. However, I did know that watching Lauren Conrad at her internship at Teen Vogue excited me. Watching the show with intense curiosity, I would take notes on everything she did at her job. I had a notebook filled with notes saying "making copies" or "send out invites." Little did I know, as a senior in high school I would go on to my first internship at a fashion house in New York City. I still owe the blonde California girl sitting in the fashion closet at Teen Vogue for sparking my interest in the industry.
I have moved on from taking notes on “The Hills” and Lauren Conrad has moved on to create an empire all her own. I personally read her lifestyle site, LaurenConrad.com at least once a day. But in my opinion, Lauren’s most impressive venture yet is The Little Market. The Little Market, co founded by Lauren Conrad and Hannah Skvarla, mission “is to build sustainable partnerships with artisans from around the world, by connecting them with customers through an online marketplace.” Each artisan whose wares are sold on The Little Market are paid a fair wage. This helps craftsmen to live above the poverty level and empowers them to help their local communities. The Little Market’s products range from unique accessories to chic home accents to bathroom essentials. It is very reassuring to see such esteemed fashion gurus like Lauren and Hannah know the important of giving back. Here are some of my favorite finds at TheLittleMarket.com
